ABOUT

Welcome to your local, everyday retreat. Our mission is to provide a beautiful and dedicated space for daily yoga practice with gifted, intelligent and compassionate teachers. Our goal is to share a sense of community in the neighborhood and to connect with the greater, worldwide yoga community through visiting teachers, workshops and events. We look forward to practicing with you.

Pleasure Point Yoga was dreamt up and opened in the Fall and early Winter of 2011.  In less than a year we’ve experienced huge growth, many changes, met wonderful new friends and have come together in forming a young, thriving yoga community.

One of the most wonderful twists was the addition of Amy S & Sean G as co-owners and co-directors of the studio. The two talented and experienced teachers from NY partnered with Aimee N in the late Spring of 2012.  It was clear from the beginning that the three of us shared a similar vision for launching a whole new flavor & style for an awesome yoga studio in the SC community.  Together, we have joined forces to bring you the very best that yoga has to offer….and we’ve only just begun!

Also, we’re so grateful to have our gifted and kind teacher Jessie H, who courageously joined the adventure from the very beginning. And we’re quite pleased to announce the addition of four new friendly & wise faces on the PPY schedule: Jill F, April U, Tamara L, and Bridget P.

To all of the teachers and students who have contributed their time, dedication and yoga power along the way, thank you!

Namaste!

Aimee, Amy & Sean

The (Yoga) Practice :

The Sanskrit roots of Vinyasa come from Nyasa “to place” and Vi “in a special way.”

Contemporary Vinyasa Flow has emerged as a style of yoga, with its emphasis on linking breath with movement. The teacher places, in a special way, sequences of yoga postures (asanas) to align breath, body and mind. In transitioning with care from asana to asana, a rich understanding is discovered by the student in how to concentrate the mind on synchronizing the motions and positions of the body with breath. The teacher guides the students with alignment from the outside, the student’s breath and awareness creates internal alignment, allowing the many layers of yoga to unfold.

The teachers at Pleasure Point Yoga have deep roots in studying a variety of lineages and draw from a wide base of knowledge and systems ranging from Iyengar, Ashtanga, Vinyasa, Bikram, Hatha, Anusara and more. Teachers borrow from many of these traditions, as well as other Vinyasa Flow influences and their own direct experiences to synthesize a flow of yoga poses. All the limbs and facets of Yoga are available for exploration such as Pranayama, Chanting, Mudras, Subtle Anatomy and Contemplation to name a few.

There is a freedom and creative intelligence in Vinyasa Flow as it allows a continued evolution of growth and enables students to integrate yoga practice into their everyday life. Students are exposed to a variety of Yoga as different paths are celebrated and a playfulness accompanies the vigorous work, or sweet slow stretching of the practice. Many of the classes include music.
